In Alexander's Will dated 14/11/1916 he left all of his property and belongings to his Mother. From the 1901 Census - 29d Laird St, Coatbridge - Henry Allan aged 43, Margaret Allan aged 43, Harry Allan aged 18, Robert Allan aged 14, Alexander Allan aged 11, Jessie Allan aged 9. Alexander's Pension was awarded to his mother Margaret of Glenvarloch Station Rd, Coatdyke.

Alexander left Southampton on the 18/11/1916 and arrived at Roeun on the 20/11/1916. Alexander was posted to the 100th Field Ambulance on the 28/11/1916. They were part of the 2nd Division. Alexander fell just 90 days after arriving in France. He was killed at Aveluy by a shell bursting close by as he carried a wounded comrade at the actions of Miraumont, 17th - 18th February 1917. This action was part of the Operations on the Ancre, 11th January - 13th March 1917 : The final flickering of the 1916 Somme offensive as the British seek localised tactical advantage on heights above valley of the River Ancre. SEE PHOTOS x 7 FOR THE 100th FIELD AMBULANCE WAR DIARY FROM 1st FEBRUARY - 18th FEBRUARY 1917 and PHOTOS x 25 FOR THE 2nd BATTALION BOOK JANUARY - FEBRUARY 1917. Alexander was rejected 4 times by the Army before eventually enlisting on the 12/11/1915. He was a member of the Kenilworth Cricket Club (see Newspaper clippings). Alexander is also remembered at the Family Plot in Old Monkland Cemetery and Coats Parish Church Roll of Honour (see photos).
