Hugh Robertson Wilson

Hugh was Killed in Action by a shell whilst on sentry duty in the front trench. According to a Chaplain he died instantaneously. Hugh left Coatbridge for Canada on the 26/05/1914 and was Killed in Action exactly 4 years later. He was for a time a physical training instructor of convalescent soldiers in the South of England. Hugh previously served 6 months with the 21st Battalion (Eastern Ontario Regiment). He embarked from Halifax, Canada aboard S.S "Olympic" on the 31/05/1916. He disembarked in Liverpool on the 08/06/1916. Hugh arrived in France on the 07/09/1917. He is remembered in the Canadian WW1 Book of Remembrance (see photos). Hugh's grave inscription reads "NOT DEAD TO US WE LOVE HIM STILL NOT LOST BUT GONE BEFORE".
