Charles Wightman

Charles died of pneumonia in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary 3 days after the Armistice. Charles was with H.M.S. "Victory" VII from the 20/11/1917 - 08/03/1918, H.M.S. "Research" from the 09/03/1918 - 11/04/1918, H.M.S. "Halcyon" from the 12/04/1918 - 27/05/1918 and H.M. Trawler "James Hunniford" from the 28/05/1918 - 14/11/1918. He is listed as ABLE SEAMAN on the Memorial. He is also remembered on the Coats Parish Church Roll of Honour (see photos). Charles' brother Private John Wightman of the 17th (Service) Battalion Royal Scots enlisted on the 10/05/1915 at Edinburgh. He was promoted to Corporal in the 18th (Reserve) Battalion on the 18/08/1915 but on his own request he re-joined the 17th (Service) Battalion as a Private. He later joined the Royal Army Ordnance Corps on the 01/02 /1918 (see photos for his Service Record x 3, his Medal Index Card, his Service Medal and Award Rolls). I personally laid a Poppy at Charles' grave on the 27/03/2022 (Mother's Day).
