George Purdie

The 7th (Service) Battalion Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers landed in France in February 1916 and were part of the 49th Brigade, 16th (Irish) Division. Between the 27th - 29th April 1916, the 16th (Irish) Division suffered mass casualties when the 48th and 49th Brigades came under gas attack at Hulluch. A total of 570 officers and men were killed, and a further 1410 wounded, by gas and shelling during the Battle. George is also remembered on the Stewarts and Lloyds Roll of Honour (see photos).
