Frank (Francis) O'Neill

The Battalion arrived at Boulogne on the 23/08/1914 and were part of the 10th Brigade, 4th Division. Frank originally joined the Black Watch (7278) on the 06/12/1916 before transferring to the Royal Irish Fusiliers. He was Killed in Action along with 5 comrades just 6 weeks after arriving in France. The Battalion War Diary states : "East of Roeux - Field 09/07/1917 - Retaliation scheme for retaliation on T.Ms (Trench Mortars). Considerable Enemy T.M. Activity 11 p.m. to 12 p.m. Retaliation called for and successful. 2nd Lieutenant D. J. Henry Killed along with 5 other ranks. 10 wounded. 2nd Lieutenants G.A. Deane and A. Joule joined the Battalion". Frank is also remembered on the St. Patrick's Church and the St. Patrick's (book) Rolls of Honour.
