They married on the 07/04/1917 after Edward had enlisted. Edward's mother received the news of his death. He had a brother serving in the East when he died. Edward's Pension was awarded to his wife Charlotte on the 01/11/1918. Edward's stepchild Mary Kilpatrick Brown is also listed. Edward's mother Mary of 49 Coatbank St, Coatbridge and 173 Buchanan St, Coatbridge is also listed in 2 of his Pension Records .

The 487th Field Company were part of the 29th Division when Edward Died of Wounds received during the Battle of Hazebrouck, 12th ' 15th April 1918. The Division fought in the defence of Nieppe Forest. This Battle was part of the Battles of the Lys, 9th April - 29th April 1918 : The third German offensive Operation Georgette takes place in Flanders with the objective of capturing key railway and supply roads and cutting off British Second Army at Ypres. After initial successes the German attack is once again held after British and French reserves are somehow found and deployed. Edward was formerly with the Royal Scots (345273). Edward is also remembered in the St. Patrick's (book) Roll of Honour and in the St. Augustine's Parish (book) Roll of Honour.
