Andrew Rowan Gallocher

Died of Wounds to the chest on the 12/04/1916 at the 33rd Casualty Clearing Station in Bethune

Andrew arrived in France on the 16/12/1914. The 1st (Lowland) Field Company was part of the 1st Division. The Division were one of the first British formations to move to France, the 1st remained on the Western Front throughout the war. It took part in most of the major actions. Andrew had 10 years service between the Volunteers and Territorials. The 1st (Lowland) Field Company were at Les Brebis near Mazingarbe (Maroc Sector near Loos) when Andrew was wounded. The 1st (Lowland) carried out Front Line work at the Double Crassier's (spoil heaps created from mine working) during March - April 1916. Andrew was wounded just when proceeding to the night's work. He was taken to Hospital (33rd Casualty Clearing Station) with a severe chest wound. He died an hour or two later.
