Patrick Gallacher

Died on the 13/11/1918 of Bronchial Pneumonia in the 26th General Hospital, Etaples

Patrick was formerly with the Royal Field Artillery (133930) and enlisted on the 20/04/1916. He proceeded to France on the 29/10/1916 and arrived in the field on the 09/11/1916. Patrick transferred to the 19th Divisional Signal Company Royal Engineers on the 28/04/1917. They were part of the 19th (Western) Division. In late 1918 the Division were involved in the Battle of the Selle, 17th - 25th October 1918, the Battle of Valenciennes, 1st - 2nd November 1918, the Battle of the Sambre, 4th November 1918 and the passage of the Grand Honelle, 5th - 7th November 1918. Patrick was wounded in January 1918 and survived until the Armistice only to die of Bronchial Pneumonia in the 26th General Hospital in Etaples two days later. The Division book states : "During the final advance the Division had lost 11 Officers and 126 Other Ranks Killed, 41 Officers and 784 Other Ranks Wounded and 1 Officer and 46 Other Ranks Missing. Captures included 212 Prisoners, 2 Field-Guns, 45 Machine-Guns and 9 Trench-Mortars. Many Machine-Guns captured were never collected, as there were no opportunities to salvage the area".
