Killed in Action on the 19/10/1914 in an attempt to capture Frelinghien

James and the Battalion arrived at Boulogne on the 23/08/1914 and were part of the 10th Brigade, 4th Division. James was one of 33 men from his Battalion killed in an attempt to capture Frelinghien on the 19/10/1914 (his son James Joseph Docherty was born 2 weeks later). This was part of the Battle of Armentieres, 13th October - 2nd November 1914. This battle included the tactical incident, the capture of Meteren by the 4th Division.
